Office Assistant Disappears

Using Office XP Pro, my office assistant disappears about 10 seconds after program launch. Then, a window comes up saying that the office assistant has stopped responding, and that I should click on 'Show Office Assistant' from the Help menu if I want it back. I do this, and about 10 seconds later, it disappears again!

I've tried selecting a different assistant, I updated w/all the service pack downloads, etc., and it still disappears. Any fixes??

Have you tried a repair on Office already? Insert your CD, start Setup and
choose Repair.

I'll try that now... I attempted it last night, but I
don't remember having to insert the CD, though. I'll let
you know what happens.

Have you done a custom installation so all the assistants are installed on
your computer?

No, I haven't. I also am now noticing what may be a
related problem... the PC is shutting down due to 'NT
Authority' -- something to do with an RPC error. ???

Have you patched your machine against msblast? See this page for
assistance:

I just did what you suggested, but I don't know if it did any good.. I already have all updates installed automatically. It did enable the firewall that comes with XP though. Thanks
