Office/Acrobat Redaer icons generic

Hi

First the MS Office icons turned generic, then shortly after the PDF
icons did the same. Tried Tweakui repair, didn't work. Rebooted to safe
mode command prompt, deleted IconCache.db and rebooted. Still the same.
Changed screen resolution, color depth and icon size. Still the same.
Quicklaunch icons for Word and Excel are generic blue/white EXE icons,
desktop icons for Word/Excel/PDF are generic Windows icon.

Anything else to try?

In case anyone else has this happen, it's some weird problem with
Windows installer. Had to download the Windows Installer cleanup tool
from MS, remove install information for MS Office then re-run setup in
to the same install folder, then run repair install for Adobe Reader.
What a PITA.
