have purchased laptop loaded with windowsxp I have tried
to load office97 but it will not permit this. has anyone
had the same problem?

Win xp do not permit run almost all of aplication of 16
bits and office 97 wont run in winxp machine you have to
upgrade to office 2000 at least.

I was able to install Office 97 on my XP machine with no problem. The only
thing I ran into was a problem with spell-check, there is a plug-in to fix
that. I now run Office XP and do not recall where to get the plug-in, but
it's out there somewhere.

Well, please post that plug in name if you think of it. I have the same
problem with my spell checker; it won't work with Outlook Express or group
posts such as this one.

Spell Check 97 works just fine with an Office Document and I don't do
Outlook. But when I had Outlook active it would check there but I had
another problem trying to get Outlook to work so chucked it; OE is just fine
for what I need it for.

Is this a retail version of Office 97 or was it an OEM version supplied with
another computer? If it was an OEM version, aside from the fact the license
doesn't usually permit installing on another system, some versions won't
install any other system except the one on which they were originally
supplied.

Do a system search for "CSAPI3T1.dll" without the quotes and copy to Outlook
express folder. You can also get it off your Office or Word cd if you don't
find it on your computer.

My copy of Office 97 installed smoothly and works perfectly. Get the patch
for Office 97, it's about 25 megabytes so a broadband connection is a must,
and install it. It's called Service Release 2. Go to the Microsoft Office
site and you can find it there.
