I just had a look for groups having to do with Office 97. I found three,
neither of which had more than three messages. Thus I post here.
A client is running Win XP SP1a and Office 97. XP is fully updated. Office
97 has been updated with all available updates from OfficeUpdate site in an
attempt to cure this problem.
What is happening, ONLY through Office 97 apps, is that when saving a new
file, it is only possible to enter a single character as a file name within
the Save As box. Any further characters typed are ignored.
A workaround is to save the file with the single alphanumeric character,
then go to My Documents and rename it, which works fine.
Older files from Win98 (and the renamed XP files) are properly recognized
with their regular file names and Open/Save again just fine so long as you
don't change the name within the Save dialog box.
Can't find anything like this in a Google search. Answers?
