office 97 into xp

i need nelp or answers please.
at work we have excel & word
I have office 97 from an old conp, disk and product code ect, its mine
when i tried to install it on the new xp , \it said it could not
how do i try to install it or do i need a new verson of it or different drivers or what

this one has works on it and excel will not use it , when i try it does not convert it for me to use

Any help on this wii be great

I am not sure you want to install it, especially if your office is networked
and files are stored and shared on a server. There were major changed
between office 97 and office 2000. Office 2000 works fine but the older
version causes all sorts of headaches at one of my customers when run on Win
2000 or Win XP.

Office 97 should install onto XP, and operate, with no problem. Please
state exactly the error message(s), or state exactly why you conclude it
won't work.
