Office 2007 Spell Check Not Working

My spell check isn't working. When I go to menu>Word Options>Proofing, the
"hide" options are unchecked and "Check spelling as you type" is checked!
This should make the spell check work but it isn't. I am purposely spelling
words wrong and I am not being alerted. What is wrong?
