In some cases over the years, I know it's sometimes better to remove an old
program and do a fresh install of the newer version rather than upgrading
over the old install. As I have lots of ongoing files etc in Outlook 2002,
I sure don't want to go through backing up and restoring if I don't
absolutely have to. So, the question for you who have already started using
the new 2003 Office, is it a simple install the new product over the
existing programs or is it preferable to uninstall the older version?

Thanks

1. I always prefer a clean installation. However, installing over the beta
removed the beta and left my new installation of Office RTM fine.

2. If you do uninstall the prior version, it should leave your Outlook.pst
intact. Back it up in any case, as with all software installations, not
just Office.

In addition to what Milly said, I just installed Office 2003 from Office XP.
Outlook 2003 will remove the previous version but will leave your pst
file(s) in place. The other versions will give you the option of removing
and reinstalling or upgrading.
