Hi,

The PowerPoint help file states that the PowerPoint 2003 broadcasting
feature is available at the Office Online website. I've looked all over for
it, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where this is available at?

Thanks,

Jonathan Tregear

Thanks to those who've replied to my question, but Producer and the Producer
multicast stuff isn't it. PowerPoint itself has a presentation broadcasting
feature add-in. It is described here:

http://office.microsoft.com/assista...D=USA4kNgnc&Query=broadcast&Scope=HP,HA,RC,FX

Another part of the instructions for using it say that it must be downloaded
at the Office Online site, but browsing and searching that site didn't turn
it up. While I do have a release version of Office 2003, it's possible that
the Office Online site and these kinds of add-ins are not available yet.

Thanks for your help though,

Jon

has a white paper about using Producer for "multicasting." Maybe that's
it?

I can't find an actual "broadcast" download for PPT, though. There is
supposed to be one, but I imagine it's not available yet. Hopefully it
will be by the time Office 2003 releases on Oct. 21.

The addin is available now, but I still can't point to windows server 2003
as a media server - powerpoint keeps saying it's not a media server. This
was the old problem in powerpoint 2002... please don't tell me that
powerpoint will only stream on windows 2K.

Troy

I assume you installed Windows Media Server on top of Server 2003? (Just
asking the obvious.)

Hi Troy,

The server requirements for the online broadcasting service (for
multicasting PowerPoint online broadcasts) are unchanged from PowerPoint
2000 and 2002.

The online broadcasting service requires either:

* Windows NT Server 4.0 SP3
OR
* Windows 2000 Server

For more abour the online broadcasting service, check out the Office 2000
Resource Kit:

Thanks for your reply John, that's a sad, sad thing for us who have upgraded
everything. Can you please let me know if there is anything in the pipeline
that's going to patch things up to work together, or do I need to continue
redeveloping the WM9SDK sample in order to try and replicate the same
functionality? The page link you posted below is from 1999, I surely hope
there is some ongoing development synchronisation between office and windows
media...

Anyway, I would very much appreciate any feedback/information you could give
me so that we can all know where the future is heading with office/windows
media integration.

Troy

Regarding the fact that the requirements haven't changed, didn't I just read the Win2K SP4 won't allow you to install Microsoft Media Encoder 4.1 if you haven't done so already? Without MME4, how are we going to do broadcasts

Hello,

The encoder does not need to reside on the on the same machine as
PowerPoint or even on the same machine as the NetShow server (if you are
doing multicast). So, as long as you have one machine on which Windows
Media Encoder 4.x can be installed and you know how to set up DCOM you
should be OK (of course the microphone and camera that you are using for
the broadcast will need to be connected to the same computer on which the
Windows Media Encoder is installed.

I think part of my problem is that it seems like the documentation for Power Point Broadcasting is all focusing on Netshow and Windows 4.0 and there don't seem to be updated docs for Windows 2000 / Windows 2003 or the newer office products. It also seems to focus on desktop presentations as opposed to enterprise. Hopefully I'll find that I can use the line-in on the encoder rather than the mic-in...
