If you double click a DOC file, does word start or do you get a 'file not
found, check path' error message? I'm getting those messages in Office 2000.
Otherwise Office2000 works fine too.

When I double click a Word file, it opens the file in Word no problem in
Vista Business.

My computer keeps crashing - I have Windows Vista Home Premium and Microsoft
Office 2003. Someone I know said there is an incompatibility problem (he had
the same problem), and he got a "patch"/update to fix it... does anyone know
where I might get this?!! Im desperate!

If both Vista and Office have been updated there should be no problem, there
is no specific 2003 patch required to make 2003 function in Vista

I have automatic windows updates... but im not sure about Office 2003
updates. I had a look at the Microsoft site and there were a lot of 2003
updates available, mainly to do with security issues. None looked
relevant... Can you suggest which updates I need? or how I go about getting
automatic updates? Maybe that's the problem ...

You need to change a setting in Windows Update to ensure that Office updates
are automatically included. Open Windows Update and click on Change
Settings in the left pane then check the box under Update Service to use
Microsoft Update. You will then receive Office (and other MS products you
might be using) updates just like your are now doing for Windows.

You should update Office via Office update, specifically security updates.
Mind you winupdate should offer Office security updates, check your
winupdate settings, that this is enabled & you have the latest version of
winupdate.

Once Office is updated, run Office update again and review the updates on
offer, as to whether one of them might resolve your particular problem.

You might also review Win 'Event Viewer' as to whether that gives any
indication of problems
