Office 2003 an upgrade from office 2002?

I had office 2002 and its icons said e.g., Word 2002. I upgraded to Office
2003, but its icons say Word 2000. Is Office 2002 a later version than 2003?
 
No, Office 2003 was released in 2003, more than a year after Office 2002. What
the icon says isn't the critical thing, because that can be changed. When you
open one of the programs, for example PowerPoint, and go to Help > About, what
version does it say?
