Did the copy of Office 2000 *come with* the desktop? Or did you
purchase it separately? If it came with the desktop, it is probably
an OEM copy - probably not transferrable to another machine
anyway.

However, if it is legitimate and transferrable - I have to ask you
about the 'key sticker'. If it was retail - the 'sticker' was on the CD
case - not your old desktop. If you took the number off the old
desktop sticker - that's probably the number for the operating
system that came on said machine - not the Office 2000 suite.

However - assuming it is a retail version of Office 2000 and it
is the correct sticker you are getting the number off of and you
are sure you did not make a mistake entering the number - we
will need a bit more information...

Such as the EXACT message you state you are getting (insert
disk with SP2 one... and the wrong key number) - include the title
bar as well as the full text of the message.

You also may want to consider posting your question in a more
appropriate group - one for Office perhaps?

Thanks for your quick reply Shenan the copy of office was brought seperately
with the d/top. It loaded with the key number on the laptop alright but i
cant open any of the programs thats when it asks me again to load the key
number again then it tells me its the wrong key. Thats the only msg i can get
it to show me this morning or shall i post this question in another group but
thank you very much for your time and help.

"key number on the laptop"

Are you saying you used the sticker on the laptop (Windows XP Product key)
to install Office 2000...

Or are you just saying you used the proper product key (found on the cd case
of office 2000) and it loaded successfully on your laptop?

Im sorry if i didnt explain myself properly i brought O/2000 seperately with
the D/top since brought a L/top with XP/Pro loaded O/2000 on it using O/2000
key from office cd sleve and thats as far as it will let me go. O/2000 is
seperate package with seperate key. S--- now im getting confused lol. thanks
again

You still have to answer the first question ?
Did the cd of Office 2000 *come with* the desktop? Or did you
purchase it separately?

Your answer below could imply a purchase of an OEM version of Office 2000 which would then indicate use is only capable for the desktop ?

Maybe if the question was asked differently.

Did you purchase a retail Office 2000 Cd or an OEM Cd ?
You can determine the type by looking at the product key on the 2000 cd and see if it contains the letters OEM. Note: ****Do NOT**** post your product key". just look at it.

You remind me of the little girl, about eight, on the cellular
commercial.
Mother asks, who have you been text messaging so much.
Little girl responds, mbff Jill.
