If your users are using Office 97, Lynn, I'm not sure what difference it
would make whether you use Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003. An Access
2000 MDB will be every bit as unrecognizable to Access 97 as an Access
2002/2003 MDB. A more important issue is probably what version of Windows is
on the target PCs. Office 2000 was the last version to support Windows 95,
Office XP requires Windows 98 or later or (if I remember correctly) NT4 with
SP6, while Office 2003 requires Windows 2000 or later. If all target PCs
have Windows 2000 or later, then as far as I can see you would be as well
off going with Office 2003. I don't see, under those conditions, any
advantage in using Office 2000 or Office XP instead.

I checked the sites listed, nothing is in stock but I will keep searching
local used software places.
What about getting an upgrade for Office XP? or do you have to buy the full
developer's edition? I worry about purchasing the newest because I have
co-workers who are still using Office 97.
Any input is valuable. Thanks,
Lynn
