Hi There....... I am running Windows XP on my computer with Office 2000. Everything was running fine until my computer was infected with the Sven virus. I removed the virus but was told that it could have made changes to my computer, making it vulnerable to another virus. For that reason I decided to re-install all software
Since then I cannot send or receive faxes using Outlook 200 with the Symantec Fax Starter Edition. I can set up the fax ok, but when I send it just sits there until it times out. I've tried everything that I can think of, including re-installing it several times. Any suggestions would be gratefully received
Many thanks for taking the time to read thi

Hi Roger
Thank you for taking the time to reply, and the trouble of finding these documents for me, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately I still can't resolve the problem. I can install the Symantec program, and according to the Task Manager it's running ok. The problem seems to be that Symantec isn't communicating with the modem, so the fax just sits in the outbox until it times out. If I try to manually receive a fax the modem picks it up ok and says that it's receiving it, but it never arrives in the inbox. It's all very confusing (or it is to me anyway). All my settings are the same as before I restored the computer, but it just won't work. Thanks again for the suggestions though

Hi Milac,

Well, if the problem remains insoluble, you might try visiting the fax
experts in

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax

Hope this helps.

Hi Roger

Thank you once again. The problem still persists I'm afraid, and I'm rapidly losing my hair
I'll give the link a try. I'm even considering pouring cold custard into the tower to see it that helps :-

Thanks again

Hi Milac,

If you reinstall the software, try deleting the keys referring to it
in HKLM\Software\Symantec (If you don't have other Symantec products,
and after exporting a copy of the registry first).

Maybe that will help.

Hi Roger,
Thank you once again, I'll give it a go and let you know if it works. Not sure if I'm up to editing the registry, but at this point I'll try anything.
Regards.

Hi Again Roger

I've tried removing all traces of Symantec from the registry, then re-installing it. Still no joy. It still just sits there saying connecting to server, then times out. One thing has occured to me. Do you think my network might be causing the problem. I've had the network set up for some time without problem. But since restoring my computer could I have done something to set up a conflict do you think? If not I think I'm going to have to admit defeat
Thanks again for your help

Best Regards
Malcolm.
