I installed Office 2003 SP1 last night and suddenly I find that any entry of
the @ character into a cell causes it to be changed to an underlined
hyperlink(email address maybe?).

Another PC similarily updated to Off2003 SP1 last night does NOT do this.

Can anyone tell me what's happening and how to fix it?

Hi
goto 'Tools - autocorrection'. Select the second tab and disable this
feature

Cool, fixed.

Just out of curiosity:
1) is that a new SP1 feature
2)an existent feature that got fixed to the way it was supposed to work
originally
3)a new bug
4)a change or reset of some defaults that SP1 caused?

Thanks.

If I type in something that looks like an email address in xl2002, it gets
converted to a hyperlink.

Here Excel 2003 suddenly change its behavior with respect to the @ character
and that change was coincident with SP1 install. It may be as simple as the
SP1 reset the defaults or something.

I don't use xl2003, but maybe it reset the behavior to its defaults--maybe you
had changed it a longgggg time ago? (Just a wild guess.)
