PLATFORM: Windows 98

Hi, every time I run the M$ defragger, it accesses 1.44MB floppy drive B:
for some reason. No error occurs if the drive is empty.

When I run my editor, it accesses IOMEGA 100MB drive E:. Error occurs
when drive is empty.

I fixed the latter problem by recompiling the editor. The former is still
doing it. Does anyone know what this is caused by?

Did you copy Defrag from a floppy to the HD? The reason I ask is that I
copied a WP program from floppy to HD on an old machine and every time I
open that WP program it goes to A: drive, then to C: where it is. I suspect
it's something in the bat or win.ini that's causing that, but I just haven't
got around to locating and fixing it. I may just delete the program and
then download it from the Net. Usually that 'fixes' such. Also, in the
BIOS, I turn off boot from floppy because I find it just wears the floppy
unnecessarily. If I need to boot from a floppy, I go to the BIOS and enable
that option temporarily.

just curious here .. but how do you change the BIOS ! I know it's
scary..but it's setup to ck A: (floppy( and F: (DVD/CDRW) and the F:
drive (the CD part) doesn't work ..so I need it to check E: drive (
plain CD ) instead. I like this cking on bootup in case you *need* to
use a floppy or CD to get up !

PS. I had big time problems having my ZIP drive D: .. on booting, too
...(it 'worked all my other drives move up 1 Letter ) but that's another
story <G>

No, defrag was on the hard disk the whole time. I have had this problem
with defrag before, I think.

I tried reinstalling defrag using the system file checker, but it didn't fix
the problem. I also tried emptying the lame favorites folder, but that didn't
do it either.

I doubt that it's anything in autoexec or config.sys, but I haven't checked
in any of my .ini files. Something to try.

Something else to try is searching the registry for "b:" or "e:" or
whatever the "problem" drives are. Sometimes there's MRUs to non-fixed
drives. Careful what you delete though. Some such references are useful
or essential e.g. pointing to the CD drive the program was installed
from. If possible, check the MRUs from the running programs to see if
this might be an issue.
