Alex Andra

I posted this on Outlook ng a while back but got no replys.
You guys seem to be extremely knowledable about everything
computer wise so I desided to post here, in the hopes you
won't flame me for being off topic. :)
TIA, following is the original post:

Hi,

I added a hard drive to my system and installed Outlook 2002. I had it on
my older drive, too, which is now a slave in the new system.

I want to copy the data file of my contacts from the slave to the master,
but I can't find them on the old drive.

Can anybody tell me where they are?

Thanks,

Alex

Search for *.pst

It is usually on the C:\ drive in documents and settings.

If you run outlook you can then import the .pst file from the file menu.

Take care,

John.

Depending on the OL version you are running with the Windows version you are
running, it could be in many different spots. In WinXP it should be in:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME HERE\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

You need to be able to see hidden files to get it, you can do this through
"My Computer" in the tools|Folder Options and then the views tab. Set it to
view hidden files and folders. Copy the file to the desktop on the new
drive and then import through OL using the import utility.

Hope this helps

Hey Youse Guys!

Thanks a million.

Here's another problem if anybody feels like taking a shot at it. I have
outlook 2002 on my laptop and this desk top. On the laptop it loads in
about 4 seconds, on this desktop it loads in 35 seconds. Thats a loooooong
time to load.

Laptop is XP home on AMD 900 Mhz CPU, 256 MB PC133 ram, this desktop is XP
Pro on AMD+ 2.6 Ghz, 512 MB PC3200 ram.

With the old drive, WD 80 Gig, 2 meg cache, it loaded about the same as the
laptop, this drive is also a WD, but it's 120 gig, with an 8 MB cache.

So why does it load so much slower now? The aps on both drives are about
the same, and this one is freshly formated. I think it's fighting with
something during the load, but don't know what it may be. I have everything
turned off in msconf startup except for AVG trial anit-viurs, incd that nero
put in there, and ctfmon whatever that is. I left it on because I don't
know if I need it or not.

Thanks in advance for any ideas obout this.

Have you disabled Windows messenger in the registry? If so, you need to find
the check box which says 'use windows messenger' (in the tools/options/other
menu) and uncheck it. Messenger can cause a big slow down; might be worth
trying even if you haven't disabled windows messenger.

John.

kill everything for one thing

ok , will try that tomorrow

thanks, I'll see if I can remove it, also tomorrow
Outlook is freshly installed on the new drive? or running from the old
drive as a slave?

It's freshly installed on the new drive. When the system is running
the way I want it to, I'm going to wipe the slave, but just to be on
the safe side, I haven't done that yet.

I was thinking about running bootvis on it, but then I thought it
would be pointless because all it does is organize the way
drivers load. Let me know if you think I ought to try that.

Thanks

John.

Thanks for the tip, John, but yeah, I already turned off msgr and the msgr
service in the o.S.

It's opening in about 3 seconds now.
I did all the things suggested here, rebooted, and opened it.
I don't know which one caused the delay,or combination of them.
But now it's working great now.
Thanks again!
