Wow! Even /I/ have never had the audacity to so openly advocate Linux on an
MS server - only as a possible solution to a particular problem! (like
multi-licencing for instance.......)

tired of spyware? maleware? viruses? system crashes? whateer comes new
in windows world of mess?!how many time you list files because of
windows?how much personal data you lost because of it?
tired and need change?
use linux, its more safe, stable, and even easier to use, compatible
with windows and mac, comes with ms office-compatible office suite and
its all yours for FREE! who can refuse that offer wthout even give it a
try?!

if you have tried it years ago give it another chance it develops too
fast, try another distribution,. its world of choices so pick
distributions after another, ther're all free
i dont make money by saying use linux, i just enjoyed using it and i
feel i have to give something back, because i didnt even paid a cent to
use it!
here is some links that you might find useful as a start
www.distrowatch.com, huge list of distributions pick the one you feel
it suites you, read reviews, and check out what is the famous
distributions to start with
www.linuxquestions.org huge community if you need any help

if you've any comments feel free to, just dont comment things like its
hard to use or couldnt install it! windows didnt come as a guy who runs
everything for you,you had to learn, linux comes in many distributions
with diffrent tastes and feels so try another
i dont hate microsoft, i promote linux cause they dont have microsoft's
money and media to promote it,
so if you dont like this topic, just ignore it and move on, and sorry
for your time!

microsoft advocate windows into linux news sites and groups by paid ads,
that's one
second, i said if u dont like it ignore it, is this ms server realy :)?
though it just famous windows help forums, anyway i wrote this topic
here only cause i see it as active forums. with many windows problems
:)

i am sorry for that, i saw MVP off-topic so i though its not rule as the
topic still related to computers and operating system
anyway sorry again, where should i post off-topics in this forums?

I will no doubt be accused of encouraging you, but what the hell. My
understanding is that this(these) are newsgroups and not forums. They are
to do with all MS stuff and connected matters.
Although sometimes some groups do seem to descend into a forum type
'banter'! Shame really.
There are some in these newsgroups who, like yourself, recommend linux and
some who try to shove it down your throat. I tried it 4-5 years ago, having
used windows for 10 years and found you could not teach an old dog new
tricks. If I were younger I might have stuck with it.
I decided to stay with the devil I know, and went back with Mickey Mouse. I
need something to shout, swear and rant about.

Hear, hear!

There may be many of us who agree with the OP, but this is not the
right forum for discussing it.

I think you'll find it's come a long way since then. Installations
are easier, and coverage of hardware is much better. There are more
applications, and they're more user friendly.

A "Live CD" lets you play with Linus without putting even one byte on
your hard drive. www.ubuntu.com will actually mail you free CDs, or
visit www.knoppix.com and download a .ISO image for burning to a
bootable CD.

Never had any of those problems, but have had a couple of HDD failures.. can
Linux stop hardware failures too?.. next time one of my drives poops out,
can I just run Knoppix and fix it?.. how does Knoppix fix the platters in
the drive?.. I couldn't find anything in Open Office that would tell me..

My apologies for adding to the off-topic thread -- I thought I had
hit R for single-person reply but evidently I hit F for public
follow-up.

Linux handles hardware failures much better than windows, most of
"hardware failures" in windows isnt realy hardware problem its windows
problems
you can post your question at www.linuxquestions.org, cause frankly, i
am just a happy linux user that didnt face any problems that require me
to learn more about technicals or much attend to help forums

regards

Linux will no more handle complete drive failure than any other OS.. Linux
users have problems all of their own, as can be seen in any Linux
newsgroup.. your opening statement was as flawed as you suggest Windows is..
Mac users have problems all of their own too. a trip into a Mac user group
will show that..

When you have something truthful to say, and on topic, come back and do so..
until then, quit trying to lead computer users into a scenario from which
they will not escape easily..

short scenario
insert i linux livecd, no need to install it
make sure that all your hardware is supported, is that something yo
cant escape from? ejectthe cd and restart your computer and you'r
out!
linux can be installed dual boot and will recognize windows, window
doesnt recognize anything that non-mirosoft
so, stop scaring users like they are going to dark spot, its hug
community everyone will welcome you and help you
but in windows, with microsoft brags that they offer support that wh
software is paid for, you have to come here and ask for help
see that truth your self!
linux problems are new user's question like how do i do that not wier
things happends like in windows, and mostly cause users cames fro
windows land thinking that eveything works windows way
and linux does handle hardware problems much much better than window
it never got crash on me cause of hardware failure "VGA", the sam
hardware that i keep getting blue screen because, when i contacted M
they said its driver issue., when i contact nvidia they said updat
your drive, same problem nothing changes
so howcome everything works just fine under linux?!
i never gave someone linux cd and he/she tried to "escape" after tryin
it
just try it and you'll stay with it
