OE6 - spell check, etc

As discussed here many time, the spell check for OE6 is disabled with many of
the recent MS upgrates. Office 2007 home edition, for example.

Is Mozilla Thunderbird email a good alternative to OE6 when these issues are
encountered?

Of course OE6 goes away with Vista, so more issues when you "upgrade (?)" to
Vista. Another reason to go with Thunderbird?

Input would be appreciated.

It's easy enough to add spelling to OE (see below), but you might want to
see if you like Thunderbird. On the other hand, some people really like the
look of Windows Mail. It's also very easy to transfer OE data to Windows
Mail.

These programs work with OE to provide spelling and Windows Mail has its own
spelling checker:
