Is there some reason why you can't just ignore it and use something else?

Well, aside from the unusual inherently insecure
architecture of it, I just have this "thing" about a bunch
of useless crap on my computer....

Usually its PBUAK.

Try this:

Start--Control Panel--Add or Remove Programs--Click on Add/Remove Windows
Components on the left side of the screen. Scroll down and uncheck Outlook
Express and see it that works. You'll have to follow the online
instructions.

Considering the small size of the OE components (compared to the rest of the
system) it's unlikely to be any worse than other stuff you've tried and
forgotten that hasn't fully uninstalled etc.

My point is that removing something which is "Supposed" to be integrated can
occasionally have side effects. Whether you agree that it "Should" be
integrated is not the question... MS seem to think it "Should" be...

Can you describe which "Insecure" features are not dependant on the settings
chosen by the user?
