OE v6 - using MS auto-update screwed it up

I'm running XP HE w/ SP1. I used the automated update from the Microsoft
website last week, to update my OS & MS applications. During that session, I
installed the SP1 and misc. patches, etc. About the only update I didn't go
for, was the Media Player update. (I've read some poor reviews here, in the
MS newsgroups.)

My Outlook Express v6 is now showing disfunctions. I suspect that it's an
interaction with Defrag; I didn't notice problems, until I'd defragged my HD
a day or two after I'd done the updates. I've had my normal email account
set up in such a way that I would need to type in my password before it
could be accessed. Now, it doesn't ask for the password - just opens the OE
v6 program right up into my email account. Seeing this makes me suspect that
there's now an open door when I'm using OE v6 online. I hope this isn't the
case, but have no way to verify whether it is or not. I've checked the
password, and see that it's still intact. Changing the password seems to go
through without a hitch. However, even after changing the password, it still
won't seek that password when OE v6 is activated for the first time during a
user's desktop session.

If anybody can help with this, I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks in advance.
