For quite some time I have used OE6 on my PC to connect
with my personal ISP and e-mail, this via cable modem.
During the same period, I have accessed my employer's
network and work-related e-mail using Outlook 2002,
configured to use the same cable modem and a connection
via VPN.

I'm no longer working for that company, and of course no
longer access that firm's network. But I'm trying to
figure out whether and how I can reconfigure the Outlook
office 2002 to use for my account with earthlink. Is this
possible, and where can I find step-by-step directions for
installing/configuring Outlook 2002 for that purpose? (I
still have the installation disk, but it includes no read
file, and the only other manual I have is specific to the
connection to my former employer.

Yes, I've tried. But that gets to the heart of the
problem. The "tools" button isn't available until the
identity or profile has been established, and I can't get
that far - I get stopped by a screen asking for
the "Microsoft exchange server."

When I can't supply the appropriate answer there, Outlook
will only open to a default -- my "local files/boxes" --
which is basically the same as "My computer" And "tools"
doesn't even appear on the toolbar.

How about this -- go to Windows Control Panel and double-click the Mail
icon. If Outlook 2002 has been set up as the default mail program in
Control Panel | Internet Options | Programs tab, double-clicking Mail
should bring up a dialog box titled "Mail Setup - Microsoft Outlook
Internet Settings" that allows you to create profiles or e-mail
accounts. Can you create an internet e-mail account that way?
