What should we check in a friend's computer? OE suddenly quit
working---after a pop up killer his son downloaded was uninstalled.

Give me some thoughts here. He can still surf, is hooked up OK, etc.

Details?

Does OE open? What are you doing when it doesn't work? Have you tried with a
different user or email account.

Are there any error messages? What is the exact and complete error message?

Another crime where the complainant gives no detail for the detectives to
work with.

How do you expect to get a viable solution?

Run System Restore. Go to Start->Help and Support->Pick a task->System
Restore link. Follow the wizard to Restore your system to an earlier time
like just before the popup stopper was initially installed.

POP up killers may work by being proxies.

Perhaps OE was directed to the uninstalled proxy?

Read the other comments and you will see why I usually disable
Popup/SpamKiller Tools. Many of them will cause more problems than they will
solve. As stated, use System Restore back to before the PopUp Tool was ever
installed. If you cannot, go to the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/Add
or Remove Windows Components/scroll down to Outlook Express; uninstall and
follow that with a reinstallation.

Sorry about the lack of detail, but I was given practically nothing to go
on. I'm supposed to go over to my friend's house tomorrow to see if I can
do anything about his problem. After that, I can give good info as to
what's wrong, if it's not something simple that I fix while there.

My OE problems have been with settings and accounts, and can be solved by
methodically going through those motions.

More later.
