Hi richard,

In OE, go to Tools>Options>Security tab and uncheck the checkbox beside "Do
not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a
virus", click on Apply then OK.

Hi,

Iv`e got the opposite to Richard. I can not disable "Do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Even
though it`s ticked. How i fix this ? Can it be done in the registry ?

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

Yes, you should be able to work around that with a registry edit. With OE
closed, open the registry editor and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Identities>{GUID}>Software>Microsoft>OutlookExpress>5.0>Ma
il

Look in the right hand pane for the value "Safe Attachments" and then
right-click on that value, select Modify and change the Value data from 1 to
0
Close the registry editor and then open OE and see if the checkmark beside
"Do not allow attachments to be saved....." has been cleared.

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
