OE causes Messenger to drop out???

Trying to communicate with my parents and have a few
issues.

Initially could not get video calls to work. That proved
(I think) to be solved by reducing the firewall setting
on one end (using Trend PC-cillin) to "medium".

However the following 2 problems still remain. Both
appear linked to using OE and Messenger at the same time.
1: Remote assistance - they request help from me - works
very well, except if OE is started on the remote computer
is kills the RA session dead - not necessarily straight
away - perhaps when OE syncs????
2: Video calling now works, except if OE used at the same
time the video call is dropped.

I am using Norton Firewall, they are using PC-cillin.

Any ideas - It would be really good to be able to
remotely use OE via a RAssitance session ...

Greetings Kev,

What version of Messenger are you using? Outlook Express will automatically start Windows
Messenger, may be assisting in this problem somewhat. You can stop all integration between
Outlook Express and Messenger on their PC by closing Outlook Express if it's not already
closed, then downloading and running the following .reg file:

Thanks for the hint, so it may be that when they start OE
at the remote end, OE starts messenger, which might reset
and/or drop some connections (video or RA)

By implication it is worth seeing if they start OE before
we get involved in messenger sessions whether that avoids
the problem...

I'm using 4.7.2009, will check the other machine to
confirm it is not different.
