OE back up problem

I have run into a wierd problem with OE running on WIN 2000 Pro.

I backed up OE documents by copying all of the files in the storage
directory onto a CD. Later, some files got lost on the main desktop. So I
copied the CD files back into the files storage S/D. OE refused to start
saying it couldn't find some files and .DLLs. I copied the pre reinstall
files to teh files S/D and OE is fine again.

I loaded the CD into my notebook and OE opened and showed the backed up
files fine.

Any idea what can be wrong?

I have used this method of saving the OE files and recovering them before
successfully.

Is there some way to recover the lost files off the CD onto the desk top?
(Without corrupting what is there?)

Is there some way to reinstall OE without doing the whole Windows reinstall?

Thanks

Hi C. Moore :-)

Try the information here and see if you can retrieve the backup information
from the CD. Have you tried to copy the files to your hard drive and then
restore them using the restore backup method?

also....

Try creating a new directory and moving all the .dbx files to the other
directory and see if that fixes

First of all, you don't copy DBX file to OE, you import them. See
references below.
OE refused to start saying it couldn't find some files and .DLLs.

What files and DLLs?

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
