Local technicians advised I'd lost everything on the hard
disk, Windows 98, & installed a new one with Windows XP.
A friend found the files WERE recoverable, tho they
couldn't actually open the Outlook express files. They
copied all files to their computer, formatted the old HDD
for Windows XP and hooked it up to my computer along with
the new one.

I seem to have access to everything except old the
Outlook express files, and badly need the address book
and some msgs. Any ideas pls? Email copy to
(e-mail address removed) if you're able to help as nothing
much can happen workwise till I get it. Thanks, Joy

Did your friend copy all the files back to your old drive after he formatted
it? You say you have access to most of the old files. If so do a search on
the old drive. Set your search to show hidden files, then search for *.dbx
files (messages) and *.wab files (address book). If you find them, write
down the path. Then go into Outlook Express, open the Import function, and
import your address book and messages, browsing to the location that you
wrote down.
