I recently purchased a new computer (dec) with xp home and oe6. sometime around x-mas i began receiving a relay error message, which referenced a comcast.net address. (i don't have comcast other than for my cable tv.) anyway, i have gone through the registry and have found comcast associated with my DhhpSMTP classes. I suspect a trojan or spyware but have been unsuccessful in finding it. additionally, everytime i substitute comcast.net with my correct pop3 & smtp server information it reverts back to comcast. i am at a loss. furthermore, i have no problems sending emails accounts on my correct domain.
thanks for your help in advance.

This question is entirely irrelevant to Word. Follow-up set to Windows NGs
only, but an OE NG would be even more appropriate.

See http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/errors.htm#550relay

Check your settings at Tools>Accounts>Mail>[mail
account(s)]>Properties>Connection

How do you connect? Comcast's not your ISP? Have you ever installed any
Comcast software?

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity
(File>Identities>Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages
from the old Identity before deleting it (File>Identities>Manage
Identities).

Disable email scanning of outgoing and incoming mail. It provides no
additional protection (and even Symantec says it's not needed:
