This number pops up in search boxes at intermittent times..I have no idea
why it does or how to delete it. Could it be some kind of malware or
virus/spyware running in the background?

I am using Windows XP on an old Dell Dimension, with Opera as my browser.

Any ideas on how to find out what is causing this to show up? How to delete
it ? and how to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks

Although this is a newsgroup for questions about programming in Microsoft's
..NET environment, I would suggest you go into Internet Exploror's Tools menu
and then choose Options. From there, choose the Content tab and then
AutoComplete. I would de-select everything except the "Web Addresses"
choice. My guess is that you entered that number into a form at some point
and the AutoComplete feature is remembering it.

I think Scott's on the right track. Check user options in Opera for a
feature similar to the IE feature he described

In future, try to find an appropriate group for your questions. Here's a
way.

To find the group you need:

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...spx?guid=1080912A-26C5-7040-AFDD-2224A4FEB3EA

Select your language from the Tree View on the left, then scroll down to
Windows. In the Windows category, open the category for Windows XP.
There, select an appropriate group.

Thanks Scott, I gave it a try.
But I am curious as to why clearing in Internet Explorer (even though I am
not using that browser) would have an effect in Opera.

I do clear out 'all' every time I use each of these browsers
anyways..(Firefox, Opera, IE)

Let's see if it keeps showing up.

Have a good day/night.

To pvdg42....
thanks for the advice..
I figured my question was pretty much 'general' so why not put it in the
general discussion group?

Anyhow, I am not new to this forum .

I didn't notice that you were using Opera. Changing IE settings won't
affect Opera, but look for a similar setting in Opera to turn off.

But this is a general newsgroup for Microsoft .NET programming questions,
not general Microsoft questions.
