I am having a very odd problem with logging into my server
under the administrator account. Seems that when I get to
the boot log in screen I input the password, hit enter...
the normal boot screen shows w/ "applying settings" etc,
and then from there it jumps to the log out screens where
it says "saving settings..." and then back to the log in
screen. I have checked the event viewer, nothing, ADU&C
to see if log into local was blocked, and was not. Server
is SP4. Other accounts with admin rights work fine, just
not the administrator, any ideas where else to check? Any
utilities that will rebuild that account?? I have even
tried to restore the docks and settings admin folder from
a back up and still same issue. Help!!

Try logging on as a user with administrative rights and then delete the
administrator profile using the my computer/system properties/advanced/user
profiles settings. Then try to log back on as the administrator and a new
profile should be created. If you are using EFS file encryption, keep in
mind that the administrator may be the default recovery agent if computer
is not in a domain. Sounds like profile is corrupted. --- Steve

Thank you for your help Steve, but now I have one other
question. I forgot to mention that this server is the
Primary Domain Controller, so should I proceed as advised
before?

Thank you.

It should not make any difference. Keep in mind when you erase the corrupted
profile that he new profile generated will be the default profile but you
could always copy another administrators profile over it if easier that
resetting it to preferred desktop. You might be able to copy a backup over
it also if you have a backup of the profile that is not corrupted. You might
also want to use explorer to copy the existing profile to a folder somewhere
in case you want/need parts of it before you delete it my documents, emails,
etc. Try CheckDisk also if it is not a problem rebooting the server. ---
