Hi all,
I've posted the following message many many times, but
nobody got back to me. Please, if nobody has the answer
can you tell me what articles can I look at to find the
answer. My question is the following:-

I converted an Access 97 database to Access 2000. I want
to link Visual FoxPro tables to this database. I
downloaded the ODBC driver for that purpose. When I tried
to do the link using ODBC type, I got a dialog box with
two options:
*Machine Data Source
*File Data Source
Which option I shall go for? And What's the difference
between these two options?

Please, I need help.

I believe the 2 options you are looking at corrospond to the System DSN and
File DSN options in the ODBC Data Source Administrator. If you open the Data
Sources app (in Control Panel and/or Administrative Tools), you will be
presented with these options to set up a DSN which can then be used by the
dialog you mention.

The description at the bottom of each of the tabs that explains the
differences.

User DSN: An ODBC User data source stores information about how to connect
to the indicated data provider. A User data source is only visible to you
and can only be used on the current machine.

System DSN: An ODBC System data source stores information about how to
connect to the indicated data provider. A System data source is visible to
all users on this machine, including NT services.

File DSN: An ODBC File data source allow you to connect to a data provider.
File DSNs can be shared by users who have the same drivers installed.

Once you have set up the DSN, you should be able to select the option in the
dialog and choose the DSN as the data source.
