Hello all --

We have a lot of devices that are running on POS systems that run Windows XP
Embedded. We have a control that's made by Invisionware called isignit.ocx
that allows a signature to be written on a touch screen monitor, and then
saved as a file with a date/time stamp. Well, everything seemed to be
working perfectly until our clients went and did a Windows Update. Now the
OCX control doesn't work anymore and our application is broken!

Invisionware, the maker of the OCX control, said:

"I cannot duplicate the problem because we do not have any Windows XP
embedded platforms.
You need to contact Microsoft and ask them how to re-enable ActiveX controls
in the browser."

Has anyone else had this issue happen to them (yet?) ? Thanks !!!

XPE doesn't officially support Windows Update since every XPE image out
there is unique. The Windows Updater doesn't know how to deal with systems
that have arbitrary subsets of the OS. I'm not sure what happened on the
device, but reimaging the harddrive will fix any software problem. :)

Well, according to Microsoft Website, Windows Update *IS* supported on
WinXPE.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/embedded/wepos/faq.mspx#q6

Specifically:

Microsoft Windows Update - Just as it does for Windows XP-based desktop
systems, Windows Update scans a Windows Embedded for Point of Service-based
POS system to see what updates are required and provides a list of updates
tailored just for that system. Systems can also be configured to install
updates automatically, ensuring that they remain up-to-date.

You both say it isn't supported, but Microsoft's own website says it is!
I'm confused! :-(

You first referred to XPE - not WEPOS. WEPOS is a specific build from
Microsoft. XPE can be used to make much more variation and much more
reduced images.
