October 15th security upgrades causing CD/DVD record speed slowdown

Here's an interesting predicament. I have a Pioneer DVR-
105 and I'm running W2K SP4. The thing only records CDs
at 16x, but will handle the new DVDs at 4x which is cool.
After the October 15/16 critical upgrades, the buggardly
thing will only record at half its rated speed in CD mode
at only at 1x in DVD mode. Device manager shows the
seconday IDE channel to be DMA if available, but the drive
is stuck in PIO mode. BIOS is set to auto. I seem to
remember this thing always being in DMA mode until after
the OCT 15/16 critical upgrades. Any ideas on how to
force DMA as an experiment? Has anyone else seen this?
This is absolutely pissing me off! LOL

Hi Steve,

It's a Jetway 603tcf/TCFL motherboard, using VIA Apollow
PLE13T, VT8601T and VT82C686B chipset. IDE is integrated
and the clock generator is a Winbond W83194BR-39B.

I've tried changing things in the registry and the BIOS
with no effect. The shiftless drive insists on PIO after
the upgrade. It's currently the master in the second IDE
channel. It seems to want PIO no matter what channel I
use.

I've also contacted Pioneer, but they have yet to respond.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Al

What IDE chipset are you using?

Via has a full ATA/133 miniport driver available for
separate download on their website (viatech.com).
That will probably solve your problem, but depending on
a lot of other things may cause some others.
