obstinately default log on

My employers recently purchased a dedicated audio workstation PC which was
set up ready for use by the workstation manufacturer. As supplied XP Pro
booted straight into the desktop of the user 'SADiE' without the Wecome
screen.

Since this PC will be used by more than one engineer, we need it to boot to
the welcome screen so that the appropriate user could log on to his personal
desktop. Accordingly, I created 3 new named user accounts and made sure that
the logon/off options included the Welcome screen and fast user switching.

To my surprise, Windows still booted straight into the desktop of the user
'SADiE' and the Wecome screen never appeared even though the logon options
were set to Welcome screen & Fast User Switching. We could log off 'SADiE'
and log on to any of our newly created accounts, but Windows always initially
booted to the 'SADiE' desktop so that whichever user wanted to work on it had
to log off 'SADiE' and endure the Saving Your Settings routine before being
able to log on via the Weclome screen that finally appeared.

In desperation, I deleted the 'SADiE' user account, but now on booting, XP
complains that it can't find the user 'SADiE'

How can I tell XP to forget all about this deleted user and just boot into
the standard multi-user Welcome screen?
