I'm getting a suspicious registry entry under the name
obsidium that Microsoft AntiSpyware hasn't blocked or
shown for me to delete. I deleted it once using
RegCleaner, but it appeared again today.

Anyone having the same problem? If so, what is obsidium
all about?

Thanks--missed that in Googling.

My gut feeling is that this entry is likely legit--viruses and trojans
aren't generally going around setting up keys in the registry--but like
other development/distribution tools, this one can be abused.

I already knew about the shareware wrapper program, but
since I never tried it, I thought it had nothing to do
with the registry entry. Maybe someone else installed that
program before I got this computer.

I would expect that this entry might be created by installing a piece of
software using that mechanism on your machine.

It might even be left behind after installing and then uninstalling such a
product.

I suppose all of the above might even apply to a virus or trojan, but I
suspect that's less likely!
