Somehow I just don't think Microsoft was prepared for 20,000,000
beta testers.<g>

Known problems and work-arounds are repetitively posted in all the
newsgroups. It might be useful if all posts in this newsgroup were
to be cleared out and the group set to read only with posting
permitted by only be select persons.

Close down the http interface and place a script on the download
page that would check for the existence of the newsgroups on the
users system and create them if required. This would preserve
threading and avoid much confusion.

Qualify your testers in some fashion.

You've made some very valid points, IMHO.
I would humbly suggest one additional point: have the
computer deliver a very painful (but not necessarily
fatal) electrical shock to anyone asking a question which
has already been asked and answered at least 5 times in a
given newsgroup.

Wouldn't that take all the fun out of it? :)

Seriously, the number of issues reported pale in comparison t othe 20Mil
that have the product. This is especially true when one can simply click a
lin in Help and get here.

There's a technical issue which prevents this group from being effectively
set to read only, I'm afraid. This was discussed some, in this group, at
the beginning of the beta.

It is possible that at a later stage of the beta we will move to a newer
HTML interface, and that it will then be possible to have this group operate
in the we you'd expect, but I am not holding my breath,,,,
