I just booted back to XP. There was an update to
Windows Live Messenger. Upon installing, there's
a list of items to check- shortcuts, make MSN the homepage
and Rhapsody Music service. Why Rhapsody? I mean,
how many music services does Microsoft have its hands in?

MSN Music, URGE, and now Rhapsody. I thought Rhapsody
was owned by Real Networks. I have always been under
the impression that Microsoft and Real Networks were not
on friendly terms.

How many DRM services does one need?

I also believe it to be crappy ad software which is annoying slowing
computer, icons everywhere and yes, u have a point!

Apparently MSFT keeps selling the same shelf space in the store to different
vendors. I just smirk and keep uninstalling.

Including Rhapsody was part of a lawsuit settlement with Real Networks from
several years back.

Good memory! I had forgotten about that whole thing. Uninstalled, just the
same.

The Rhapsody streaming music client was written by another company using
Windows Media components and was later bought by Real Networks. Rhapsody
also uses MS's DRM system for its "Plays For Sure" support of portable
players.
