I need help. My son viewed objectionable web sites and
now I cannot erase them from the address bar. If we type
something in, they keep popping up to be clicked on.
I have tried:
1. deleting history (numerous times)
2. deleting temp files (on & offline)
3. erasing auto complete
4. removing history index from file (saved it to disk)
5. I have thoroughly explored my favorites file with no
luck
6. I have searched high & low for a hidden file where
they might be hidden so that I could erase them but to no
avail.
I really need help, I am contemplating removing explorer
and then reinstalling.
Thanks

Removing and reinstalling Internet Explorer aLmost certainly won't make any difference at all.
If you're running Win 9x, deleting your History folder in MS-Dos will probably help:
Start the computer in MS-DOS mode. If you're running Windows ME, that means starting up with a
Boot disk.

Type the following lines from C:\ , pressing ENTER after each one:

cd windows
smartdrv
deltree tempor~1
deltree history
deltree cookies

NOTE: Press Y if you are prompted to confirm any deletion

Type win (or 'exit'), or hit ctrl-alt-delete followed by clicking enter in order to return to
Windows

NOTE: This is assuming the path to these folders is the default one
Is they're located elsewhere/named differently, adapt the path accordingly.

Windows will create a new folder containing a brands new Index.dat file on reboot automatically.

In Win XP/2000, log in as Administrator, and delete the Docs and Settings\UserName\Local
Settings\History folder.

Scanning for spyware is always a good idea as well:
Download Spybot - Search & Destroy: http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/

After installing, press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Now close all browser windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.
