ObjectDock or Yzdock?

Which of these do folks prefer? I have tried both and really can't
see much of a difference as yet. It is peculiar that Apple stopped
the author from continuing work on Yzdock but not those that are doing
ObjectDock

I suspect part of it is that one author had lawyers and the other didn't.

They're both free. Just use the one that works best for you.

There is also MobyDock which seems to have the best website. Yzdock
is no longer supported and is slightly buggy for me...so now to decide
between Mobydock and Objectdock...anyone have preferences?

I prefer Moby Dock. It runs better on my system then the other two. I had
several issues with Yz's and Object Dock. Not sure if the problem was/is my
video drivers, hardware config or what, but Moby Dock runs great on my XP
pro machine.

The only issue I have with Moby Dock, is that for some reason, MS backup
does not like it, so I have to schedule a batch file to run to kill the dock
before my back up runs and then schedule a task to start it back up when the
back ups are complete.

The other issue that I have found with ALL three of the docks are if you are
running the latest Nvidia drivers and are using the Nview option for
transparency, all the docks cause transparency through Nview to stop
working. I think it has something to do with DirectX...not sure, but you can
get around this by using something like Glass2k or PowerMenu, which is what
I use.

BTW here are some of my PC specs and running programs...just to give you an
idea of things that I have found work with Moby Dock.

P4 2.4
1GB ram
Nvidia Geforce4 4200ti 128mb
XP Pro
Style XP
Powermenu
Yz's Shadow

One more thing...

The really nice thing about Moby Dock is that you can actually position it
where you want it. The others allow you to put it at the top, bottom, left
or right, but Moby allows you to nudge it up or down so you can use it
WITHOUT covering the windows taskbar.

The thing that Moby lacks is the ability to add docklets.

You and I are running almost identical machines...mobydock was quirky
for me, would hang when drag and drop to desktop to erase or poof an
icon. I switched to ObjectDoc and it so far is flawless...likewise
Yzdock ran quidkly but also occaisionally would hang and crash.

Thanks for the input

Good points, Craig. I've used all 3 and think all 3 are good and all 3 are
free.

I don't know what MobyDock's URL is off hand, ObjectDock's is
www.objectdock.com. It doesn't have the ability to offset the dock position
(you can move it to any edge you want though) but it does support docklets
which people seem to really like. MobyDock has some DirectX 9 features that
are nice if your hard supports it. ObjectDock has a software engine option
so that it'll work on pretty much any machine.

IMO, you really can't go wrong with any of them. Dock software is,
ironically, one of the best areas on the PC when it comes to freeware.
