Object offsets when moving object by clicking and dragging

When clicking and holding on an object to move it, the object offsets from
it's original space (as shown by the circles at the midpoints and corners of
the object boundary) about 4 clicks up (if snap to grid is enabled). This is
different than clicking and releasing an object to select it and then using
the mouse to move it. Does anyone know of a way to configure Powerpoint so
that when I click and drag an object it doesn't automatically offset itself
from it's original position?

If you hold down the alt key while dragging the object won't snap and you'll
have complete control. Is that what you mean?

No. This problem occurs when starting to moving the object. It occurs when
selecting the object by clicking and holding (not clicking and releasing).
The boundaries of the object will appear as small circles in the corners and
at the midpoints of the boundary lines (the same circles that can be used to
resize an object). Those circles correspond to the original location of the
object, but a dashed outline of the object moves under the control of the
mouse to show the current location of the object boundary. The issue occurs
once the object has been clicked and when starting to move the object, the
dashed outline of the object shifts from the original boundary identified by
the circles. Basically, if you were to click and begin to drag an object,
but had barely moved it and then you changed your mind and released the
object, it will shift towards the top of the screen by a quarter inch or so
(estimating based on the ruler).
