Some time ago one very king sould in this newsgroup pointed
me to a free addin that allowed the user to name graphic objects,
much like the naming utility provided in Excel. The addin was
great.

Unfortunately, a disk crash killed it completely, and I can't
figure out how to find it again. Is that kind soul here now?

Have you any other addins that can make the use of VB
easier with PowerPoint?

You catch on fast about free things. I hope the authors of the Starter Set
also appreciate that we love it! (And I see that you have been converted to
that group too!)

It's not the free part of it that interests me. The utility was
most useful. I'd pay for it gladly, were I able to find the source.

As one of the authors of the free Starter Set, I can assure you (and I believe
I can speak for my partner on this as well) that we'd be delighted to take your
money. I can handle the guilt. Really I can. <g>

Actually, the part of Starter Set that does the renaming comes with the not
free Starter Set Plus (an upgrade to the freebie that'll run ya 20 bucks).

http://get.pptools.com is where you can download the freebie and/or purchase
the update.

Soon, though, I'll have a new tool that's part of the free PPT2HTML demo - it
will also let you rename shapes and a bunch of other useful stuff.

Or you can select the shape and run this puppy:

Sub RenameIt()

With ActiveWindow.Selection.ShapeRange(1)
.Name = "Fill in the blank here"
End With

End Sub

Oh hey ... didja see that? It got free again! ,-)

I don't have the source for the add-in, but you can visit my web site and get some simple code for renaming objects (although I modified it some, the basic idea of the code came from someone in this group a long time ago; I assume it was either Steve or Shyam, but I don't remember). Go to:

http://www.loyola.edu/education/PowerfulPowerPoint/

Click on Examples by Chapter and go to Chapter 8. Look for Example 8.7.

That's the one that I was looking for. However, the add-in
manager refuses to load it. Might there be a conflict with the
other add-in package?

Tony,
1. Select Tools | Macros | Security on the security level tab, check MEDIUM.
2. Click on OK.
3. Now load the add-in as per the instructions.
4. Once the add-in has been loaded you can set the Security level back to
HIGH

Phew! Thanks!!!!
