Hi there,
I installed a new computer at home with W2K professional(no service packs)
and I cannot ping the other computers on my home network. Hardware
works(both motherboard and hub).
Error message in event viewer is:
"The IP Security policy for ISAKMP/Oakley specified an encryption algorithm
that is invalid due to export cryptography restrictions. All 3DES
encryption used by ISAKMP/Oakley is weakened to standard DES encyption.
Generally, this is benign. ISAKMP/Oakley will still be able to negotiate IP
security parameters, and protect that negotiation with DES encryption. This
should only be of concern if you demand that the ISAKMP/Oakley negotiation
be protected with 3DES encryption."

Sometimes I have this one as well:
"The server could not bind to the transport
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{5324F91D-EAE4-4E53-BAF5-60537522D50B}."
What should I do? Thanks, Calin

Try installing at least service pack 3 and make sure that you do not have any ipsec
policy assigned in Local Security Policy - particularly server/require. Look under
"IP security policies". Secpol.msc in the run box will bring up Local Security
Policy. If a policy is assigned then right click it and select unassign. --- Steve

Hi Steven,
Thanks a lot. I applied W2K sp4, there are no policies applied(IP security)
in Local Security Policy. Still does not ping. Maybe I need to reinstall?
Like the status of the network card is OK, it is sensing the 100Mbps
hub/switch but the sent/received packets stays at 0 for some strange
reason.Thanks a lot, Calin

Hi Calin.

Have you installed a personal firewall?? Try booting into safemode with networking to
see if you still have the problem. Also run netdiag and look for any failed tests.
Post the results here in a reply if you find anything questionable if you want.
Netdiag is located on the install disk in the support tools folder where you have to
run setup. Try setting the nic to 100 speed instead of auto if you have that option
in the nic properties and it may be worthwhile reinstalling tcp/ip as described in
the KB below. --- Steve
