Hi,

O&O Defrag v6.5 Professional Edition

Has anyone had any experience with this defragmenting program?

I had a version installed some 3 years ago but removed it , via control
panel, a long time ago.

I have just tried to install the latest version and it stops half way
through installing telling me to un-installed the pervious version.

well the previous version is not installed any more.

but O&O thinks it, or some component of it, is.

does anyone have any idea how to resolve this problem?

thanks.

Do you have an O&O Defrag service still installed? Or perhaps the
registry keys for the old version still remain?

Hi,

I went into control panel | Administrative tools | services
and there is an entry called O&O Defrag 2000
the status column is blank and start-up type is set to disabled.

the properties for this entry say the dependencies are

remote procedure call (RPC)
I don't know what this really means but I had a look in the
C:\WINNT\system32 folder and
I have the following files in there ;

OOD2000.exe
OOD2KCRS.dll
ood2kmsg.dll
OODCSPRO.dll

Can I delete these?

or would this cause problems.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks

As a follow up, more info.

I have just noticed various entries in the register to O&O2000

I don't know what to do, there are numerous entries and at least one of
them has a long string, off the edge of the screen, of hexadecimal
numbers following it.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks

Why not reinstall that old version of O&O Defrag again and then see if
doing a proper uninstall will remove those parts?

Otherwise you probably need to go into the registry and manually delete
the service, reboot, then delete all the O&O Defrag files.

Thanks, I will give this a go.
