Nvidia versus ATI

Hi,

I'm about to change my videocard and I would like to know which is the best
between the both, I like to play some graphic intensive games but I'm not a big
time gamer, I like the card to be able to use 1600X1200X32 in the games that do
support it and be smooth as well

Hi

I recently got a game that needs a 32MB memory video card. I have 256 memory and I was wondering if I could move some of the extra memory not being used from there to my current 8MB memory videa card. I heard that this could be done, and there is a switch somewhere on the computer, or is there another way?

No, you can't move the memory. Do you have a onboard video card or is it in
a slot? Onboard cards "borrow" the memory from the main RAM. Sometimes when
you increase the system RAM, say go to 512, the amount "loaned" to the video
card is increased. I think your best bet is to upgrade your video card.

Yeah its build-in (onboard I guess that means), it's not in one of the slots. It looks like I'll have to get a new video card then? That's a lot cheaper than more memory right?

If you can afford $499.00, your best bet is an Ati Radeon
9800 256 ram.

Whit this card, you wil still playing for some years.

I wouldn't say the card is a lot cheaper than memory - depends on the card
and memory. But you don't have much choice if you want to play that game.
However you need to look at the entire computer. Is the processor fast
enough? How about the mother board? Will it handle a good video card? Do you
have a AGP slot? You need to study the problem carefully. You don't want to
lay out big bucks for a good video card then find out your computer is too
slow, or won't use all the features of the new card.

There is not much PCI type of good video card out there except for AGP bus.
Most PCI version is a MX type in Ti series or FX5200 for FX series.
If AGP bus is not available or option on the MoBo, the choice will be
limited.

My last 2 cards have been ATI and I love both of them.
The first one was a 9700 pro and now I have an ASUS Radeon
9800XT and it is an amazing card. 9800XT is the best one
out and the ASUS uses a heatpipe with dual fans on it and
has smart doctor which is a program that monitors the
temperature of the card. As with any high end video card,
make sure you have good airflow in your case no matter
what brand.

Email both manufactures with a problem about one of their products(you
don't have one yet so be creative here, and pick out one of the most
expensive of their products). The one that helps you out is the one I would
by from. If I spend $400 on your product you better be there for me. I
didn't say any thing bad about ATI did I? They love to help you out , but
can't because they aren't certain what door you came in.

They all have a fan, and better yet they do need one otherwise they just over
heat and fail

What about driver support I know that ATI was lasy on that for a while and some
of their newer drivers did work well, I even had to re-install an entire system
because of that
