I have 2 old Gateways, 1 is an 800mgz machine, the other 1.5gig. Both have 512 ram, both run Windows XP with the same updates, both have an NVIDIA Geforce2 MX/MX 400 64meg video card, both have Directx 9b. Untill this morning both were using the old 7/1/2001 driver

This morning I went to NVDIA's sight and updated the driver on both machines (10/6/2003 version).

The 1.5gig machine runs like a champ. Performance was enhanced quite a bit during gameplay

The 800mgz machine, same video card, same OS, etc will no work. I get a flash of the blue screen of death (too fast to read it), then get the choice of safe mode, last known configuration, or try again. I tried getting the update from Microsoft and experienced the same troubles

Anyone know what might cause this?

Were drivers from here http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
there would appear to be later drivers than the date you gave
As you have differing hardware this may go some way to explain why ones ok
the other isnt.
