I have AMD Athlon XP 2500+ and nvidia nForce 2. When I recently updated drivers for Audio Codec Interface and for MCP Audio Processing Unit from 5.10.2917.0 to 6-point-something as recommended by Windows Update (driver of 23 Dec 2003), my Nvidia Soundstorm from Control Panel ceases to work ("Faulting application sndstorm.exe, version 1.0.0.307, faulting module sndstorm.exe, version 1.0.0.307, fault address 0x00013aa3"). HOWEVER with the new drivers my microphone works at an acceptable recording level, which was not the case before

I seem to have to decide whether to use Soundstorm or to use the microphone - but not both. What could the problem be? What should I try

I have the same PC setup and after I loaded the MS Update for sound from the
MS Website, I experienced the same problem! I ended up uninstalling the
audio drivers and then reinstalling my chipset drivers to get everything
working properly. Either there is a bug in the driver, or it was not ment
for PC's with our particular setup. I have resorted to only loading driver
updates from the manufacturers website since I have had this type of problem
quite frequently when letting MS make the decision on which drivers I should
use.

Dont use winupdate for drivers, use manu.site only. Winupdate drivers are
generic or refference drivers and as such may not be specific to yr
hardware.

Thansk for the help! Any idea how to make the microphone louder (useable)? Boost & max is already used
