My barbers dog told me that nVidia paid Valve 8 million $ to write a
GeforceFX-specific rendering path a la DoomIII. That is the reason for the
delay. It will be a DirectX8-DirectX9 hybrid with less demanding gfx for the
Geforce cards. The output to screen will be almost identical to the general
DX9 path.

The original optimization, where the effects were the same but less
precision was used when possible, was not enough.

I do not trust that dog, so this must be crap.

The dogs never let me down before......... told me last week that I was the
first one to know that 3dfx were packing up - really lucky - managed to
offload my stocks this week. What will I do wiv my Voodoo 2 now?

I wouldn't trust that dog either. HL2 already has a GFFX-specific
rendering path that according to Gabe, they spent 5 times as long
creating as the standard dx9 path.
