Nvidia or Via which is better

Im looking at A7n8x or A7v8x on the 32bit boards and a few 64bit boards
(Asus) Im not into overclocking computers so that dosn't have to come into
it but which is the better board. Nvidia or Via chipset. im after
compatbility and stability.

fwiw, I've been running a plain jane "A7N8X" v2.0 for 20 months now
without any problems at all, if you don't need the features of the
deluxe version the plain A7N8X is a nice pick. I also have a nForce3-250
board (AMD 64) for 5 months now, no problems with that one either, I
vote Nvidia. ;p

I agree with this poast!

nVida has the upper hand as far as i can tell. nForce seems to be the way
to go with AMD. Who knows? Maybe the new Intel sets will rock too????

I have a A7V8X (2400) for about 2 1/2 years now and it runs pretty well,
but based on other users expierences and reviewreports, I think
the A7N8X is a bit more stable and faster, and therefore a better
choice. I also recently bought a K8N-E Deluxe (3400) and I like it very
much. Very stable, and a competitive price. I installed XP-SP2 a few
weeks ago and have been stress-testing it since then and have not
run into any major problems.
I think the K8N-E Deluxe would be a better choice for you than one of
the athlon boards since they are becomming obsolete and performance
is way behind.

I have suffered major bios corruption from both chipsets now, the
nForce2 Ultra and the KT880. I suppose it's a crapshoot really, all
you can do is try to find as much info you can on both over the web and
in the forums. There's alot on nForce and damn little on the 880. I
hoped for greater stability with the 880 but found it wasn't any
different, maybe even more fragile. Guess I'll have to wait until I
can afford a Winny 3500+, DDR533 and a Neo2, then just cross my fingers.

I have had no personal experience of VIA, but having been a regular reader
of anything Mobo related for the last five years or so, I can tell you that
VIA have a habit of releasing buggy chipsets.

I have been a system builder for many years, and I can state that VIA
chipsets are no more "buggy" than any others, and are much better for those
who are building and want total control over the assets of the motherboard
and it;s connectors. nVidia chipsets are not bad, they are just not as
comprehensive as the VIA chipsets.

Given a choice between the two, based upon my own experience, I would
choose VIA. The nVidia, ATI and others have not yet developed a proven
record like the VIA. However, if there was a good deal on an nVidia based
board, I would consider it.
