This is just a tip that might be helpful to some of you that use notebook
computers with NVidia cards.
NVidia does not provide driver support for it Go series cards (for
notebooks). Unless the OEM that sold you the notebook decides to release and
updated version of the driver, you are out of luck... Or so I thought...
The new Vista drivers that have been released recently will not install with
my Geforce Go FX 5700 card. This is a big issue for me. Even though my
notebook is quite fast, due to the poor driver that is supplied with Vista, I
only get performance scores of 1.9 for Aero and 1.0 for 3D. This is quite
bad...
However, after some search in Google, I came across this site:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com
(I am not associated in anyway with this site, and am promoting it
exclusively because I found it to be very useful. I hope this is not against
forum rules...)
It provides modified .inf files that will allow the most recent drivers from
NVidia to install in notebooks with Go cards. I just installed the 96.85
driver and my performance scores jumped to 3.6 and 3.0 respectively. The Aero
interface is noticeably faster now, although I still have not experimented
with 3D games yet.
Cheers,
Renato
