NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

Mother board is MSI K8N NEO 4F (NVIDIA nForce4 chipset) The onboard
controller stated above isn't working properly. It will acknowledge the LAN
but has limited connectivity and cannot access the internet through the
router (read Gateway).

The OS is build 5384 (32 bit) and this controller worked fine under XP Pro
(32). The internet connection wizard only shows a dialog box allowing me to
connect to "Internet PPPoE Connection".

I have installed a Netgear FA311/FA312 PCI card to overcome this issue for
the time being and the PCI card is working well.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Hi,
I have the Nforce 4 chipset and it works fine under Vista. The PPPoe
connection seems to be in the network area by default. Ignore it.
Go to Tools, internet options, check Internet in the window box and then
uncheck the box in the lower left corner that says ENABLE PROTECTED MODE (
not secure). Do the same under Intranet and trusted sites. That let me
connect wired and wirelessly through every kind of adapter, B, G,wireless,
USB, all of them. Try it out, might work for you too. LOL.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately that wasn't the magic bean :( Although using the router login
info does show that the machine is asking the router for something. When I
connect using the add-in card it connects right away without asking to set up
an internet connection. It will see the Gateway and use it just like the
nForce controller would do under XP Pro 32

Well I've figured it out.
Just had to go into the nVidia LAN properties and manually input IP, Sub net
and DNS. All connections are now good.

jbiel, If you don't mind, what settings did you use? I have the same mobo and
problem.
I can connect straight through to the modem but not to the Netgear router.

This is a solution that worked for me that I posted into another thread. Just
be sure of your routers domain and subnet.
"Had to go into the LAN
controller properties and manually set the IP, SubNet and domain.
You will need to ente 192.168.1.25 for the IP (or any # that isn't being
used), the SubNet Mask of your router and the IP address of your router
(Domain) probably 192.168.1.1"
Just be sure you don't use an IP that is already in use.

It worked. Thanks for the help.

jbiel,
Thanks for the quick response.
Being a somewhat "semi-h/a..ed-networking tech, I finally got it working
using your info. This is for the nForce with a Netgear 614v6.
For others like me who are not that familiar with IP's gateways, SubMasks
and that other stuff, in the Properties config for the "TCP/IPv4", I put:
IP Address: 192.168.1.25
SunNet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Then in "DNS Server Addresses":
Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS Server: 192.168.1.100 (I think I could have left that blank.)

As I held my breath and OK'ed out of each screen I saw the IC icon blinking
and finally the little connect blot.

Thanks again for the direction.
I'm dual booting with 2 HD's and this was the only hiccup so far.
Pete
