Hi,

I have a IBM Thinkpad A30 running with Vista Home Basic very well except of
the 3d and directx graphics because ATI is not compatible with Vista

which graphics card can I use instead of ATI Mobility Radeon?

Thanks for your comment

NVIDIA has some issues with Vista, I wasn't aware that ATI had many. But,
your best options are the NVIDIA Go series or the ATI Radeon Mobile series.

Ok, I will check for the NVidia Go possibilities then, thanks..

What do you mean that ATi is not compatible with Vista?

They have a fully released non-beta driver right on their website.

My old Dell laptop with a Mobility Radeon X300 works with Aero Glass
perfectly well.

My Dell XPS410 with a Radeon X1300 also works perfectly well.

So please define that they are not compatible.

Also since you have a laptop the chances of finding a card you can sub are
not likely. Usually laptops have their card either hard mounted as a chip,
or if it is discrete then they are made specially for that model only.

I would think this is built-in on your laptop and can't be changed or
upgraded. It's likely that it's not that it's incompatible, it's just not
Vista Aero Glass capable. Since you are running Home Basic, which doesn't
include Aero Glass, you won't miss anything due to this shortcoming.

My laptop has the 9600 mobility and it works fine. Granted mine is only a 16
meg card, so I don't run any of the pretty features (I would turn aero theme
off anyways)

After the initial install, I ran the Windows update and it pulled down the
latest WDDM drivers, I'm waiting for the OEM to release their drivers, but
even if they don't, I don't think I'll need them. Not like this laptop is a
gaming laptop

Are you sure you can change the graphics "card" on this laptop? Most laptops
have a graphics chip on the motherboard that you can't change, unless you buy
a high gaming machine and the TP A30 certainly is not one of those.
